Managing the Emotional Challenges of Parenthood
There is often a lot of support to help you manage the practicalities of parenting – but what about the emotional aspects? Having a baby is one of the most wonderful but also one of the biggest life changing experiences you are likely to face.
Join us for this new class, whose topics include:
- What is stress and what causes us to experience events as stressful?
- The particular stresses involved in pregnancy, birth and parenting
- Tips to help you reduce anxiety and feelings of stress
- The normal emotional changes associated with becoming a parent and how to cope with these
- Information on post-natal depression and what to do if you or your partner is suffering
There will be plenty of opportunity to meet other parents in similar situations, and share your success stories to help each other (although there is no obligation to contribute if you don’t want to).
We end the class with a short relaxation exercise that can also easily be done at home. This will hopefully help you leave feeling calm and rejuvenated!
Our aim is to help reduce the impact of stress in your life, so you can continue to enjoy the time you spend with your family. You will receive a booklet with all the information contained in the class. There will also be a list of websites and local services where you can seek further support if needed.
This class is suitable for new and experienced parents as well as parents-to-be. The topics will be relevant to both mothers and fathers, so individuals and couples can attend.
The class is run by 2 experienced mental health practitioners who will be happy to answer any specific questions you have that are not covered by the class:
Dr Jane Tuomola (Clinical Psychologist)
Jillian Bromley (Counsellor/Lecturer)
